For a Statue of Unity trip with limited mobility, choose a room and transport arrangement that meets your needs before filling the itinerary. A wheelchair request, a ground-floor room and a fully usable route are different things.
Start with what makes travel comfortable for you: avoiding steps, reducing walking, using your own mobility aid, or having someone available to help. You do not need to send medical records to explain those practical requirements.
Describe the route you need to use
Ask the property to check the journey from the vehicle drop-off to reception, the room, bathroom and dining area. A ground-floor room can still have an entrance step or a long outdoor path. A lift does not answer whether the bathroom or vehicle works for you.
- Arrival: where can the vehicle stop, and is there a step-free route from there?
- Room: is the exact category available, and can the required room location be confirmed?
- Bathroom: ask for current photographs and details of the shower access and any support features you require.
- Meals: establish the distance and route to dining, and whether an alternative arrangement is available if needed.
If dimensions matter for your mobility aid, provide the relevant measurements and ask for measured clearances. A general “accessible” label is not a substitute for checking your own requirements.
Tent City or hotel: compare the actual property
Neither format is automatically the right choice. Cottages may involve outdoor paths; a hotel may involve corridors, lifts or steps. Ask for photographs or a short video of the relevant route rather than deciding from the room's interior image alone.
Compare our listed stays and Tent City choices, then request confirmation for the specific room and dates. A preference for a room near dining should be recorded as either confirmed or requested, so you know what you are booking.
A wheelchair listing is not a reserved chair or assistant
The Narmada Tent City booking site's published FAQ describes wheelchairs on request, limited availability and no assistant. Its visitor guide also makes availability conditional. These descriptions are not an independent access audit. Treat them as a reason to arrange details in advance, not a guarantee that a chair will be waiting throughout your trip.
Confirm where the chair is collected and returned, whether it can be reserved, and who will assist if needed. Distinguish equipment at the property from equipment at the attraction. If bringing your own aid, check vehicle storage and the transfer arrangement.
Agree on the vehicle and the last part of the journey
Ask about getting into the vehicle, carrying the mobility aid and reaching the actual entry point. “Transfers included” does not describe those details. If a shared vehicle does not meet your requirements, ask whether a suitable alternative can be arranged and what it costs.
A private transport enquiry can start that conversation, but a private booking alone does not establish vehicle accessibility or door-to-door attraction access.
Build a visit you can adjust
Choose one priority experience, allow for queues and rest, and leave a practical return option. Ask the relevant operator about the current visitor route and assistance arrangements for that experience. Priority-entry tickets should not be treated as a promise of no walking, no waiting or personal assistance.
Meals and rest can be planned around that priority. Our meal-plan guide helps compare dining arrangements; it does not confirm room service or special assistance.
Send a practical access brief
“We travel on [dates] with [guests]. We need [step-free access / short walking routes / space for our mobility aid]. Please confirm the room and bathroom, route to dining, vehicle arrangements and any assistance separately. Send photographs where useful and identify anything that remains a request.”
Use that brief to compare hotel + tickets packages. Finalise the itinerary after the essential access arrangements have been checked with the relevant property and operators.
